Appropriate Technology

Dr. Ernst Friedrich "Fritz" Schumacher, a well-known economist, wrote Small is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered in 1973, as a result of his work with developing countries. Appropriate Technology was initially intended to address four problems: extreme poverty, starvation, unemployment, and urban migration.

It takes into consideration the Resources available, Needs of the Community, and the Audience.

Relevance for Educators in General:
  • It is essential to make technology accessible in education
    • for teachers
    • for all students
    • education for global citizens
  • Sustainable world for life and education
  • Projects that help - Laptop for every child

Relevance for Us as Educators:
  • What resources are available?
  • What are the needs of the community?
  • Who is my audience?

Critique:

Sustainable Technology is in Decline. We are forever in competition with who has and makes money. We need to continue to lobby for appropriate technology.

Question:

What do you all think?
